board meeting

The Comanche Board of Education met on Tuesday, April 11th. In the regular session, members approved various routine consent agenda items, including the minutes of the March Board Meeting, activity fund reports, treasurer’s report, General Fund and Co-Op encumbrances. The board also voted to approve the settlement agreement with JUUL Labs, Inc., and its founders, directors, and board members.

Superintendent Bills reported to the board that the ACT was given on April 12 and the remainder of High School testing will be on April 18 and 19 for the required subjects. Elementary testing will begin April 17 and end April 28, and Middle School testing will be May 1-4.

Bills shared that CPS summer school will be held for three consecutive weeks, 4 days a week, from 8:00-12:00 for MS/Elementary. The dates are June 5 - 22. Transportation will be provided as needed. HS credit recovery will begin May 30 and continue through June 15. Breakfast and lunches will be provided June 5-22.

The board also approved the addition of Megan Stuckey as a half-day assistant principal at the elementary school.  Ms. Stuckey will continue to teach 3 hours at the middle school where she currently teaches 6th-grade math and 8th-grade science. This is a new position. Currently, 48.7% of the district's students attend the elementary building. Having an assistant will afford administrators additional time to interact with students and faculty. This will be Ms. Stuckey’s first administrative position; however, she has 12 years of experience as an educator with several of those years in the upper elementary.

In other business, Thomas Winton was sworn in for Seat 3. The board held their annual election of officers: Charlie Gay - President, Thomas Winton - Vice President, and Amy Shelby - Clerk.
