The Comanche Board of Education met in a regular session on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.  Board Members approved various routine consent agenda items, including the minutes of the December board meeting, activity fund reports, and the treasurer’s report.  The board also approved General Fund, Building, and Co-Op encumbrances.

January is School Board Appreciation Month. Superintendent Bills expressed her gratitude to the members for their time and dedication to Comanche Public Schools. Charlie Gay, Amy Shelby, Thomas Winton, Marty Clark, and Cody Gerard were recognized for their continued service to the district.  Board members volunteer their time, bring valuable perspectives, and work together for the betterment of our district. School board members play a vital role in shaping the direction of the district, setting policies, providing oversight, and making the necessary decisions that impact the community.

Superintendent Bills announced that Coach Gary Robinson has resigned from his coaching duties effective the 2026–2027 school year. Bode Grice has been named head coach and will work with both the high school and middle school programs to develop and strengthen the district’s football program. The district is also awaiting updated OSSBA classification information due to statewide delays in certifying October 1 enrollment numbers.

Bills shared with the board that the Tilley Foundation donated 3,000.00 to the district to meet students' personal needs. Bills expressed her gratitude for the community partners willing to help our students. Bills shared that the district also had two anonymous donors. One has sponsored the updated window tinting for the high school gym and annex doors. The other sponsor has agreed to donate half the cost of refurbishing the pole vault pit, with the district covering the other portion. This will allow for a full slate of events for spring track meets.

In additional reports, Superintendent Bills informed the Board of Education that the district’s financial audit is scheduled to begin on January 19, 2026. Mrs. Bills also reported that she met in December with Stephens County Commissioners, local business leaders, and area superintendents to discuss the proposed Ad Valorem Reform Act of 2026. The discussion focused on concerns that, if the proposal to freeze or eliminate property taxes for homeowners is approved, it would have a detrimental impact on local and county governments as well as school funding. At this time, no clear alternative funding sources have been identified.
