SUBJECT: Press Release – July 14, 2026 Regular Board Meeting
The Comanche Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The board approved the routine consent agenda, including the minutes from the June regular board meeting, activity fund reports, the treasurer's report, various contracts, and federal program designations and authorizations. Board members also approved FY-2026 and FY-2027 encumbrances for the general and building funds.
The board accepted Superintendent Bill's recommendation to approve Hunter Mildren as an adjunct instructor for high school Physical Science and Biology.
Board members also approved the hiring of Diana Reeder as a personal care assistant, along with returning support personnel. Superintendent Bills reported that all district staffing positions have now been filled. The board accepted the resignations of Kat Anderson, Jennifer Lancaster, and Fabian Reyes.
The board approved contract amounts for certified and non-certified 10- and 12-month employees. In accordance with state legislation, certified staff will receive a $2,000 salary increase. While not funded or required by the state, the support personnel will receive a $1.00 per hour pay increase. Bills noted, “Support personnel are the behind-the-scenes employees who keep our district running and allow our teachers to teach.”
To comply with new Oklahoma State Department of Education requirements, the board approved revisions to the district's bullying policies (FNCD, FNCD-P, and FNCD-R).
The board also approved agreements with Allie Garrett, SLP, and Keahbone SLP, LLC, to provide additional speech-language services alongside Wilkins and Stone. All speech services will be delivered in person during the upcoming school year.
Board members discussed new state requirements that increase recess time for students in grades K-5 by 40 minutes each day. For the 2026-2027 school year, 20 of those minutes may be counted as instructional time, allowing the district to maintain its current elementary schedule. If all 40 minutes must be considered non-instructional beginning in the 2027-2028 school year, the elementary school day may need to be extended by approximately 20 minutes. District officials noted that additional legislative clarification is expected and expressed the belief that recess provides valuable instructional opportunities for students.
The district will continue providing free breakfasts and lunches to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.
Athletic Director Mr. Schreiner updated the board on several athletic department initiatives, including the need to increase the price of season passes to offset rising officials' fees. Regular gate admission prices will remain unchanged. He also shared updates on the district's Rank One implementation, improvements to the basketball locker rooms and field house, and high school scheduling. Additionally, the board discussed the future implementation of shot clocks, noting that while Comanche football competes in Class A, basketball remains classified as 3A, making shot clocks a future consideration.
As summer draws to a close, Comanche Public Schools is preparing to welcome students back for the 2026-2027 school year. Classes begin Thursday, August 13, 2026, and “Meet the Teacher” will be held on Tuesday, August 11. Families are encouraged to watch the district's social media channels for announcements regarding schedule pickup dates and Meet the Teacher times.
